-A number of properties in Strathcona County had to be evacuated yesterday when a wildfire erupted around Township Road 530 and Range Road 215.
High winds sent the flames towards a barn, and two barns with animals inside had to be emptied.
But there’s word the fire hit a cut line and stopped moving forward, which allowed fire crews to get ahead of it and put it out.
There were no reports of any injuries.

-Edmonton city council has voted to use 33-million dollars from its affordable housing budget, for two projects in the Garneau and Canora parts of town.
Mayor Amarjeet Sohi says the projects would include affordable housing units with specialized supports.
He says spending local money now will get the projects underway, and he’ll be keeping an eye out for more funding opportunities in the federal budget later this month.

-The County of Wetaskiwin has signed a partnership with a Nova Scotia-based company, in the hope of reducing the amount of waste that winds up in landfills.
Peter Vinall with Sustane Technologies says they’ve come up with a way of breaking that waste into components that can be turned into fertilizer and renewable natural gas.
If the agreement works out, he project would create about three dozen local jobs, support the local ag-sector and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

They’re trained in mental health awareness, de-escalation techniques, Indigenous awareness and how to help youth and people who are homeless.
