-The feds say as of next year, the provinces will have to include “climate adaptation” in their infrastructure projects, if they want any federal money for them.
It’s part of the federal climate adaptation strategy, which also states that climate resilience will have to be part of recovery efforts, if provinces want federal help following a disaster.
As one example, communities that have been hit by wildfires and could possibly be threatened again, need to have prevention plans in place within five years.

-The Western Premiers discussed catastrophic weather events this week during their meeting in Whistler, BC.
Their plan is to make sure resources are available to keep people safe and to reduce threats.
They also say the feds have to respect provincial jurisdiction, while federal plans have to recognize and complement regional priorities.

-Things are starting to dry out following last week’s flooding in Woodlands County, but a lot of damage assessment still has to be done.
County officials say some basements were swamped, while some roads were washed out, so it could be a while yet before things are cleaned up and repaired.

-Edmonton police are hoping to speak with anyone who may have seen a motorcycle crash on Groat Road late Monday night.
They say a 44-year-old man on a bike lost control around 95th Avenue, jumped the curb and hit a tree at Emily Murphy Park Road.
He wound up with life-threatening injuries.
Speed is believed to be a factor.

-ALERT’s Ice team has arrested eight suspects in a child sexual exploitation case, following an investigation that began in the province back in April.
Investigators don’t think any of the victims are from Alberta, but almost one million photos and videos have been found, while more than 35 electronic devices have been seized.
All the suspects are either from Calgary or Coalhurst.

-Londonderry Mall had to be shut down for a while yesterday afternoon after someone blasted pepper-spray in the building.
Edmonton police say they arrested a youth shortly after it happened.
Stores re-opened about thirty minutes later, once the mall had a chance to air out.

-A new report says some First Nations on the Prairies would like to grow their own food through traditional methods and be part of the Ag Sector.
Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba have been working with the feds on this for a couple of years now, in the hopes of forging ahead with Indigenous agriculture and agri-food.

-An Indigenous archaeology team is investigating, after evidence of potential unmarked graves was found at a former residential school in Joussard.
The community northwest of Edmonton used to be the site of St. Bruno’s Residential School.
The Institute of Prairie and Indigenous Archeology says ground penetrating radar has discovered what appears to be 88 unmarked graves.

-The city of Camrose, Family Resource Centre and the Battle River School District Mental Health Capacity Building are going to be hosting a series of “pop up parks” in Camrose this summer.
They’re free, and will feature family-focused activities and crafts, to encourage people to get outside where they can learn new skills.

-At the Ponoka Stampede yesterday, the leaders for the pro-rodeo were Ty Breuer in bareback, Carlee Rae Otero in barrel-racing, Mitch Pollack in saddle bronc, Kalane Anders in steer wrestling, Ty Harris in tie-down roping, and Kaleb Driggers and Junior Nogueira in team roping. No one went the full eight seconds in bull riding.
In the Chucks, Chanse Vigen had the fastest time last night.
-Today at the Stampede, the pro-rodeo goes at 1 this afternoon, along with wild horse race and trick riding.
At 6:30 tonight there’s the Kids wild pony racing, the flying cross junior jockeys and the chuckwagon races.
