-An evacuation order was issued for the entire Fort Chipewyan region last night, as a large wildfire began getting too close for comfort.
The remoteness of the community means evacuating is more difficult, so it’s happening in stages, with seniors and people from Allison Bay being moved out first, since the fire is closer to that community.
Those with pets were told to bring them to the Archie Simpson Arena.
Some people are being evacuated by air, while others are leaving by boat.
That blaze was caused by a lightning strike on Sunday and quickly grew from 300 hectares to 3000.
There are 62 fires burning in Alberta right now, with 19 out of control.

-That wildfire in northwest Halifax has destroyed about 2-hundred homes and other structures, while others have been damaged.
One man says when Fort McMurray was hit by the big fire in 2016, his home there survived.
He later moved to Halifax, and says he wasn’t so lucky this time.
About 16-thousand people are out of their homes right now, but a group from one subdivision were allowed back yesterday, to help rescue stranded pets.
The Premier is pleading with people to stop burning things and to stop throwing cigarette butts out their vehicle windows.
There’s currently a travel and activity ban in place in all wooded regions of Nova Scotia.
-All fires have also been banned in Prince Edward Island until at least June 25th.
That includes those for industry and agriculture.

-With so many wildfires burning, researchers are recommending that pregnant women stay indoors as much as possible, drink a lot of water, and use air filters if they can.
It’s because the smoke from wildfires can increase the risk of low birth-weights in full term babies, so experts say pregnant women need to take extra precautions .

-There was a deadly crash between a dirtbike and side-by-side near Lloydminster last night.
RCMP say it happened on Range Road 21, north of Township Road 503-A, where a 14-year old boy was killed when the two machines collided.
No other details are being released.

-There was a deadly crash in Wetaskiwin County Monday night, as a semi and smaller vehicle hit on Highway 22, near Township Road 454.
RCMP say the smaller vehicle had gone through a stop sign, and the 30-year old man in the passenger seat died at the scene.
The 46-year old man driving wound up with serious injuries.
The semi driver wasn’t hurt.

-A massage therapist from St. Albert has pleaded guilty to sexual assault, after he was charged with seven counts two years ago.
RCMP had launched an investigation, after a woman told them she had been assaulted during an appointment.
Rizaldy Parreno pleaded guilty this week to four counts.
He’s been given more than 450 days in prison and almost two years probation.

-Alberta’s Court of Appeal has lowered the 9-year sentence that had been given to a man who launched a violent assault on a young mother outside a central Edmonton daycare two years ago.
Rockie Rabbit had been facing 9-years in prison for attacking the woman, while her young children watched from inside the building on 105th Avenue and 111th Street.
Rabbit told court he had used meth earlier that day.
The victim still suffers from some physical and mental health issues as a result of the random attack.
The Court of Appeal lowered the sentence to 4-years.

-The town of Didsbury has to make some repairs to its library, after a car went through the front window of the place this week.
It happened Monday afternoon, and RCMP have since given the 80-year old person behind the wheel a traffic ticket.
That person wasn’t hurt, but one of the people working in the library had some minor injuries.

-Sixteen kids and one adult were taken to the hospital this morning, after falling off a structure at Fort Gibraltar in Winnipeg.
RCMP say it happened while they were on a school field-trip.
Witnesses say all the kids were 10 and 11 years old.
No word yet on exactly what happened, but it’s said they fell between 16 and 20 feet.

-With a lot of people wondering why it took so long for results to come in on election night, an official with Elections Alberta now says a change in how some of the advance ballots were counted, may have been part of the reason.
In previous elections, advance ballots were sent to Elections Alberta to be counted.
This time, they were sent to local returning offices.
