-A brand new week and we’ve got 89 active wildfires in the province, with 25 of them out of control.
Up til this point, most have been in northern and north-central Alberta.
But experts are worried about action picking up down south, as conditions are ripe for that happening.
Josee St. Onge with Alberta Wildfire is asking everyone to keep respecting fire bans so they can focus on current fires and not have to deal with new ones, especially as the next few days are going to be hot, sunny and windy.
-In the meantime, fireguards are being built around the city of Grande Prairie, Little Smoky, and along Highway 43.
The evacuation order for Leduc County has been lifted, as a wildfire in that region is under control.
Some people in Brazeau County remain out of their homes, while others have to be ready to leave within 30-minutes, if need be.
People from the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, Fox Creek, Rainbow Lake, part of the Dene Tha’ First Nation, part of Big Lakes County, and residents of the East Prairie Metis Settlement are still out as well.

-Alberta isn’t the only province dealing with extremes right now.
Record breaking temperatures hit BC over the weekend, as several areas reached the mid 30’s, and that’s expected to last til the middle of the week.
There’s also the potential for localized flooding in some regions.

-On the campaign trail:
-UCP leader Danielle Smith was touting her party’s “Alberta is Calling” healthcare signing bonus and healthcare graduate retention tax credit over the weekend.
Both had been announced in the weeks leading up to the election call.
NDP leader Rachel Notley mentioned this weekend that her government would bring in signing bonuses to attract healthcare workers to settle in our province.

-With the long weekend just around the corner, Scouts Canada has come up with a 1-800 number to help the “outdoor challenged.”
That expert advice on the top ten camping conundrums will be available 24-7 when you call 1-844-SCOUT101.
For example, they can tell you what to do if the tent pole snaps, how to fend off bugs, or how to head up the creek if you literally don’t have a paddle.

-No Canadian teams are left in the run for the Stanley Cup this season, after the Golden Knights beat the Oilers 5-2 last night to wrap up that series.
So the Oilers are done, and Vegas will take on Dallas or the Kraken in the Western Conference final.
Those two meet tonight in Game 7 of their series.
-Canada beat Slovenia 5-2 yesterday in the pre-lims at the World Hockey Championship. They beat Slovakia 2-1 this morning in a shootout.
