There’s a big shortage of the staple around the world, because of the war in Ukraine and a lot of bad weather in rice-producing countries, such as China and Pakistan.
Both have seen severe flooding, while some regions of China are also going through a terrible drought.

The group says sea ice in Antarctica and glaciers in the European Alps dropped to record lows, while oceans were heating up…
The WMO says it led to droughts and heatwaves in some regions of the world, and a record floods in others.

-A school in St. Albert is closed today, following what the St. Albert Public School District is calling a possible threat.
Officials say they spoke with RCMP about it, and to be careful, they decided to cancel classes at Hillgrove School.

-St. Albert RCMP are trying to find the rightful owner of what they’re calling a “large sum of money” that was turned in.
It’s the second time it’s happened in St. Albert in the past two months.
This time the money was found in the parking lot of Christ Community Church, and Mounties say anyone wanting to claim it will have to give the amount and a description of how the money was being kept.
If it’s not claimed within sixty days, the person who found it gets to keep it, or it’s going to be destroyed.

-The family of an Edmonton restaurant worker who had been shot in March says he’s been having problems through his recovery.
The 55-year old man was shot at the Westmount Pizza Hut on March 12, just a few days before two Edmonton police officers were gunned down in a nearby apartment.
The 16 year old boy who shot the officers, is believed to be the restaurant shooter.
The victim recently suffered what doctors believe was a brain infection, followed by a seizure, and since then, his family says he hasn’t been doing as well as he had been.
They don’t know when he might be able to go home.

-Day 3 of the strike by members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada and both sides are under pressure to come to a deal.
The workers are looking for a wage hike that would help them keep pace with inflation, which they say would work out to 13.5-percent over three years.
The feds have offered 9-percent over that same period of time.

-Industry Minister Francois-Phillipe Champagne is defending Ottawa’s new deal to have Volkswagen open an electric-vehicle battery plant in Canada.
That’s because Canada is going to pump 13-billion dollars in subsidies into the venture over ten years, including 700-million up front and production subsidies for every battery made and sold.
The plant is expected to create numerous jobs.

-A new study says pregnant women who eat a lot of fruit, vegetables, seafood, dairy, eggs and grains have a lower risk of miscarriage.
Researchers at the University of Birmingham looked at a number of studies into the matter, and found eating a lot of fruit made the biggest difference.
Women who ate a lot of highly processed food had twice the risk of miscarriage.

Ninety fans can pay for the opportunity during the home opener.
