Win Tickets to Shumka’s Nutcracker, December 12th at the Jeanne & Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre, Camrose!
Shumka’s Nutcracker returns to the Jeanne & Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre for two shows! An Camrose Holiday Tradition, the show is the only Ukrainian folk ballet inspired by the timeless Christmas classic, blending the grace and lyrical nature of classical movement with the strenght and power of a Ukrainian character dance, with grand orchestral versions of Tchaikovsky’s legendary score, and Ukrainian symbols woven into lavish sets and costumes.
The story takes place one magical Christmas Eve during the Stahlbaum’s grand party. The mysterious Dr. Drosselmeier brings a Nutcracker Doll to his goddaughter, Clara, who comes to life in the middle of the night to battle The Mouse King and his army before transforming into a handsome prince! Clara and the Prince journey to the magical fairytale kingdom for the Carol of the Bells, the Waltz of the Flowers, Sugarplum Fairies, a dazzling Hopak, and a romantic pas de deux. Clara awakes holding the Nutcracker, but was everything just a dream? Dr. Drosselmeier’s nephew bears a striking resemblance to her beloved Prince!
