-Hundreds of new Alberta recruits are busy this week learning to battle wildfires.
They’ve got six days of classroom work, and then it’s off to the field to test what they’ve learned, by tackling staged wildfires.
After that, it’s a case of learning on the job, under the supervision of experienced fire crews.
This year is expected to be similar to last year, given the ongoing dry conditions and lack of snow over the winter.

-Several people turned out at the Telus World of Science in Edmonton yesterday to check out the eclipse in person.
There wasn’t as much to see in our province, given that we only had a partial eclipse, but there was still a lot of excitement.
Our big chance happens in August of 2044, when this part of the country will go through a total eclipse.
Thousands of people did turn out in the “path of totality” in eastern Canada yesterday.
