-The Speaker of the House of Commons says it wasn’t the government’s decision to invite a man who fought for a Nazi unit during World War 2, to Parliament during a visit by Ukraine’s President last Friday.
Anthony Rota says he made the choice to pay tribute to 98-year old Yaroslav Hunka, but says at the time, he was only aware the man was part of the First Ukrainian Division.
He found out later it was a voluntary unit, under the command of the Nazis.
Rota says he’s deeply sorry
Jewish advocacy groups say a big apology is owed to survivors of the Holocaust and Allied veterans of the Second World War.
MP’s are going to discuss Rota’s future, but there have already been calls for him to resign.
The Government House Leader says the whole thing was deeply embarassing for Canada and deeply hurtful for Holocaust survivors and their families.

-The Western Canadian Chainsaw Carving Championship is happening this week at Rig Hand Distillery’s new venue.
Owner Geoff Stewart says five of the top carvers from around the world are taking part, with the opening ceremonies Wednesday evening.
Carving gets underway Thursday morning, and the eventual crowning of the champion on Sunday.
Once that happens, there will be a couple of “quick-carves”, which will then be auctioned off.
And Stewart says when these events are held in North America, it’s usually left up to the carvers what they want to create, while in Europe, it’s up to the host.
Stewart says they’re going things European style, so he’s chosen a theme of “Drunk on the Farm.”
