
-Parkland RCMP have charged a 29-year old Edmonton man in connection with the alleged child luring and sexual assault of a youth .
Mounties say they began investigating a complaint on April 22nd, and with the help of the ZEBRA Centre, searched an Edmonton home and vehicle April 24th.
The arrest was made shortly afterwards.
Police say the social media platform Snapchat had been used, and they say it’s possible there could be more victims.
Kendrik Bozman has been charged with luring, sexual assault and interference.
Bozman was brought before a Justice of the Peace and he was released on a release order with conditions on April 25, 2024. His next court appearance is on May 8, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Stony Plain.
Bozman utilizes the Snapchat profile name “Dagshelgr”.
Police encourage parents to talk to their children about this incident and immediately report to the police if there has been any contact with Bozman.
Police also encourage parents to talk to their children about internet safety. Parkland RCMP encourages the public, including parents, families and youth to visit the Canadian Centre for Child Protection website for additional resources.
To protect the identity of the youth, there is a publication ban, and the victim cannot be named.

-The effect won’t last forever, but the rain and snow that fell across Alberta this week was enough in some regions to ease up on fire restrictions.
A few, such as Strathcona County, reduced their’s to a fire advisory.
They’re still asking everyone to be extremely careful, but it’s a bit better than it had been on the wildfire front.

-Municipalities are still shaking their heads at the bill the province recently came out with to give them power over local governments.
Bonnyville Mayor Elisa Brosseau was asked if she thinks the province is being hypocritical, in that they often complain about the feds overstepping boundaries, and now they appear to be doing the same thing:
“I agree with that 100-percent. “I agree with that 100-percent. it’s completely hypocritical. It’s also centralizing power, while they continue to say they want to empower municipalities. I feel like they’re doing the opposite of what they stand for.”
Municipal Affairs Minister Ric McIver issued a statement this morning to say they’ll be working WITH municipalities to propose amendments to the Bill, and to clarify it would only be used in “very limited circumstances.”

-Seems the province has had a change of heart when it comes to transit-subsidies in Edmonton and Calgary.
Funding for those programs had been removed by the government, so money could be used for their study into the rail-link they announced this week.
There had been a lot of concern, because the subsidies are used to help low-income Albertans get to work, school, medical appointments and more.
Social Services Minister Jason Nixon issued a short note just before noon yesterday, to say the province will continue to extend the funding.

-We could be looking at another rail strike, as workers at the two big railways in Canada have voted to hit the picket lines.
Teamsters President Paul Boucher says CN and CP-Kansas City have had similar demands during labour talks, and he’s alleging they’re actually working together to force a strike so the federal government gets involved.
A strike could happen by May 22nd.

-A man’s in the hospital in critical condition, after he was stabbed yesterday afternoon around 107th Avenue and 107th Street.
No one has been arrested at this poin, and no other details have been released.

-Edmonton’s fire Chief has decided to step down.
Joe Zatylny has been in the role since 2019 and says he’s proud of what the fire service has accomplished for the people of Edmonton.
His last day is May 10th, and a national recruitment will get underway to find his replacement.

-Residents of St. Albert can now vote in the city’s annual garbage can design contest.
Local elementary and junior-high students have submitted designs based on this year’s theme, which is “The Vital Role of Pollinators.”
There are seventeen entries to choose from, and the winners will see their designs on garbage cans throughout St. Albert.

Georgette and Michael Hales say the ticket cost them 30-dollars, but it paid off in a big way.

-The Little Potato Company marked the grand opening of their sustainable potato packaging facility in the Nisku Business Park today.
They say the chose that location because it’s close to agricultural areas, family growers, an efficient transportation network and a skilled workforce.
The facility features a state-of-the-art water recycling system that will be used to wash the potatoes, while about one-fourth of the energy is generated through solar power.
It’s expected to process about 125-million pounds of little potatoes every year.

-The makers of Ozempic say their weight loss drug Wegovy is going to be available in Canada next week.
It’s for people who’ve been diagnosed with obesity, who have at least one related medical condition, such as Type 2 diabetes or sleep apnea.
It has the same medication as Ozempic, but at a higher dose.

-Quite the rollercoaster ride during last night’s Oilers game, as Stuart Skinner got caught out of the net before the end of the first, followed by a penalty-filled second, where the Oilers were able to put their killer power-play into high gear.
Leon Draisaitl scored twice last night, while Evan Bouchard had a number of assists.
In the end, the Oilers beat the Kings 4-3 to take the series in five games.
Now they have to see who’s going to win between the Canucks and Predators, to find out who they’ll face in Round 2.
Tickets for the home games go on sale tomorrow at noon, while the Canucks and Predators meet tomorrow night.
-Dallas beat the Golden Knights 3-2, and the Stars lead that series 3-2.
