-RCMP in New Brunswick are on alert following that mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine last night.

A gunman killed 18 people and wounded 13 others, when he opened fire on a bowling alley and restaurant.

Police are still looking for him, and since two of the border crossings into New Brunswick are only about 260km southwest of Lewiston, the Canada Border Services Agency has issued an “armed and dangerous” alert for the suspect.

-Some provincial finance ministers are getting worried about the idea of Alberta pulling out of the Canada Pension Plan.
Ontario’s finance minister said Alberta’s leaving could cause serious harm to the system and peoples’ pensions, right across the country.
Premier Danielle Smith now says she won’t call a referendum on the idea, until there are concrete numbers on how much Alberta would get, if the province leaves the CPP.

-Two arson fires this past Tuesday have forced officials to close the Zebra Child and Youth Advocacy Centre in Edmonton.

It’s temporary, but since they also lost a number of supplies they use to help their clients, they’re hoping for monetary donations to replace them.

-There’s going to be a big meeting in Edmonton next week, in the hopes of coming up with answers to housing problems, both in Alberta and across Canada.
The Re-Envision Housing Symposium will bring government and experts together to look at the possible idea of a regional plan.
Canada Mortgage and Housing says more than 3-million units are needed throughout the country, to make housing affordable again.

-“This Ain’t Our First Rodeo.”

That was the theme of yesterday’s announcement that the Canadian Finals Rodeo is coming back to Edmonton.

Traci Bednard with Explore Edmonton says they’ll start planning, as soon as this year’s event in Red Deer is over:

The CFR will be in Edmonton 2024 through 2026 at Rogers Place, and it’s going to happen in early October next year at Rogers Place.

-Israel’s military says it carried out more than 2-hundred airstrikes and a series of ground raids into northern Gaza over the past 24 hours.

Some reports say more than 7-thousand people have died since the war began earlier this month.

-More than two-dozen people are believed dead, after what was supposed to be a minor tropical storm, turned into a Category 5 hurricane this week in Acapulco, Mexico.

Forecasters say Hurricane Otis built into a monster without warning and hit the resort area head on.

Many buildings have been severely damaged, in addition to extensive flooding.

-There have been so many bear sightings in the town of Jasper over the past couple of years that Parks Canada has asked people in the region to get rid of their non-native fruit trees.
Residents have also been asked to not leave pet food in their yards, and to clean grease off their barbecues every time they use them.
There have been more than 3-hundred bear encounters in Jasper so far this year.
