-As of last night, more than 13-thousand Albertans have been evacuated from their homes throughout northern and central Alberta because of wildfires.

There are more than 90 active wildfires currently burning in Alberta.
Thirty-one of them are out of control, 17 are being held and 44 are under control.

The entire province is under a fire ban, which means no open burning and no backyard fire pits.

Farmers and industries that need them for work can still use them, but are asked to be extremely vigilant.

Information for evacuees

Evacuees should register at the reception centre identified for their community so staff can quickly assist them and connect them with the resources they need.
Evacuees with special needs who are unable to stay in an evacuation centre can request emergency financial assistance to cover hotel accommodations.
- Special needs could include having a disability, a medical condition or other family needs.
- Apply for emergency financial assistance by visiting an Alberta Supports Centre or calling the Income Support Contact Centre at 1-866-644-5135. Information is also available through the Alberta Supports Contact Centre at 1-877-644-9992

-Donations for the pets displaced by the emergency evacuation of Drayton Valley, can be dropped off at the Edmonton Humane Society 13620 163 Street NW. Donations will be accepted between 9am and 7pm, seven days a week.

EVACUATIONS AND POSSIBLE EVACUATIONS:

-Strathcona County has cancelled one evacuation alert for residents between west of Highway 21 and east of Range Road 232 and south of Township Road 522 and north of Highway 14. This includes Silver Birch Estates and Colchester Lane.

A large grass fire in the region is now under control.

-But the evacuation order for everyone between south of Township Road 540 and north of Township Road 534; and east of Range Road 221 and west of Range Road 215, remains in place. This includes Pleasant View Estates and Newton Estates.

–Yellowhead County and the Town of Edson have issued an evacuation order. Western boundary of evacuation zone is Marlboro and Range Road 200 all the way to the east of Yellowhead County. Northern boundary is Township Road 550 and southern is Township Road 520. This includes the town of Edson.

-The County of Grande Prairie from Township Road 710 to the Wapiti River and Highway 40 to Range Road 72. Evacuees should register at the Bonnets Energy Centre, 10017 99 Avenue, Grande Prairie.

-Brazeau County from Township Road 482 to 494 from the North Saskatchewan River west to Range Road 84, including the entire town of Drayton Valley. Evacuees should register in Edmonton at the Expo Centre, Hall C, at 7515 118 Avenue.

-Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation. Everyone in Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation must evacuate and should register at Memorial Hall, 4808 50 Street in Valleyview.

-Fourth Creek area of Saddle Hills County, between Township Road 840 and the Peace River between Range Road 75 and Range Road 85.

-An evacuation alert for Lac Ste Anne County remains in effect for North of Township Road 560 and south of Highway 43, and between Range Road 60 to 53, including Cherhill.

-Everyone is advised that they must be ready for a possible evacuation. Prepare pets, documents, medication and supplies to be away from home for 72 hours. No evacuation required at this time. If you must evacuate, go to the Mayerthorpe Diamond Centre 4918 54 Street in Mayerthorpe.

-Athabasca County on Range Road 214 and 215, north of Township Road 674 to the Athabasca River. Evacuees should register at the Athabasca Regional Multiplex.

-Eastern part of Yellowhead County, starting at the Pembina River west to Range Road 101, north border is Township Road 550 and south border is Township Road 520, including Evansburg, Wildwood, Lobstick and Hansonville. Evacuees should register at the Edson Leisure Centre.

-Yellowhead County from Elk River Road in the north, the Brazeau Reservoir in the east, just past Brazeau River in the south and Range Road 145 in the west.

-Leduc County has cancelled a wildfire alert that had been in place for residents from Range Road 41 east to Range Road 35 and from Township Road 494 north to Township Road 495.

Fire crews say the wildfire in this region is currently under control and the evacuation order has been lifted.

– Hamlet of Entwistle, west of Range Road 65. Evacuees should register at Wabamun Jubilee Hall at 5132 53 Avenue in Wabamun.-An expanded alert is in effect for everyone west of Range Road 65 near Entwistle, north of Township Road 522 to south of Township Road 534.

Everyone in the area west of Range Road 65 to the Pembina River, north of Township Road 522 to south of Township Road 534, including all residents of Entwistle must evacuate.

–The entire community of Fox Lake (Little Red River Cree Nation). Evacuees have been asked to go to the Fox Lake Band Office or call 1-888-201-3053.

At this time, 20 households, the police station, the Northern Store and the water treatment plant have been lost. A reception centre has opened at the Fox Lake Band Office and additional support resources are being identified to support evacuees.

-An evacuation order is in place for Big Lakes County residents– north of Township Road 740 within the borders of Range Road 154, Highway 749, and south of Highway 2, including the Hamlet of Enilda.

A fire within the East Prairie Metis Settlement is moving northwest.

-Bring pets, important documents, medication, and supplies for 3 days. Everyone evacuating should go to the Elks Rodeo Hall north of the Town of High Prairie at 74508 on Highway 749 to register. Everyone must evacuate by 3:00 AM, May 6. Bring RV’s if you have them as camping is available on-site at the Elks Rodeo Hall.
