-Yesterday was a tough one for a lot of people, as word came that Ben Stelter had died.

Ben’s father Mike had given the heartbreaking news through his Twitter feed:

“The world lost the most special boy and an absolute hero last night. Ben, you were the best son we could ever hope for and you were my best bud ever. Your sisters were so lucky to have you as such a sweet brother. You fought so long and hard and beat so many odds.”

The little boy had become a huge part of the Oilers last season, to the point where he even wound up with his own official hockey card.

One person tweeted that Oilers fans may not agree on some things, but we can all agree Ben was the best thing to happen to the team, and the fan base.

 

Ben had been diagnosed with brain cancer in 2021, had undergone surgery, radiation and other treatments, and his dad said he was the best son they could ever hope for.
