-New impaired driving rules are coming into effect in Canada this month. And its going to make it a lot easier to pull over a driver. Police will be able to stop you for things like a broken tail light, expired plates–that type of thing. And they can make you take a breathalyzer test on the spot. The federal Justice Minister says it kicks in–December 18th:
“If you get behind the wheel of your car while impaired–you will be caught. The intent is to save lives and this is an incredibly justifiable purpose.”
In some regions of Ontario—police are actually posting online—the names of people who’ve failed breathalyzers.
Criminal lawyers aren’t sure this is going to work–because they say there are many constitutional issues at play.
