-There’s a rally happening in Drayton Valley this afternoon. The town is a big part of the oil and gas industry—and everyone’s worried about the current state of the market. Business owners have already sent a letter to the Prime Minister’s office—-asking for a meeting. Today’s rally is to get the federal government to pay even more attention to the matter and how it’s affecting everyday people.
In the meantime—Premier Rachel Notley told CTV she is asking the feds to stand up for the industry as well:
“This industry drives economic prosperity not just in Alberta–but right across Canada. We cannot continue to hold ourselves hostage this way–having this product coming out of Canada–and receiving one-fifth the price that it’s getting in the rest of the world. That makes no economic sense and there IS a role for the federal government to play.”
At this point however, Notley says she has NOT heard from the Prime Minister’s office. (photo credit–CBC)
