The feds still haven’t gone ahead with “back to work” legislation in the postal dispute—-as they’re crossing their fingers the two sides will reach an agreement on their own… But there are walkouts in a number of cities today—and the workers’ union is outraged that the government is even thinking about telling them to get back to work.
Members of the postal workers union and their supporters were part of the rally yesterday in Calgary:
“We’re out here to challenge the government of Canada to allow us to have a negotiated contract—-and not a legislated settlement. We have the right to collective bargaining in this country. We think that right should be recognized by the Parliament of Canada and be left alone. And we think ultimately we can get a better contract for our workers. And a better contract for the public–the people who receive mail everyday in this country.”
