-Calgarians showed up in big numbers yesterday—to have their say on the city’s bid to host the Olympics in 2026… The city basically wanted to find out how the majority of people were feeling about it—-and it turns out—they don’t want it. 57-percent voted “NO” to the idea.
More than 172-thousand voted no while just over 132-thousand voted yes.
Mayor Naheed Nenshi says he was hoping for a yes—-but the people have spoken:
“You know a lot of folks have said that this is a divisive conversation. I reject that thinking–because what we had is passionate people talking about the community and talking about what they believe in.”
Yesterday’s vote was non-binding—-and Calgary city council still has the final say on what happens. That’s going to happen—on Monday. (photo credit–CP)
