If you’re flying somewhere for Thanksgiving–you may have noticed a hike in the cost of checking a bag.
Both Air Canada and WestJet are now charging 30-dollars for the first checked bag—-and 50 for the second.
The airlines say the cost of fuel, maintenance and daily operations are costing more—so they have to make up the difference somewhere.
The new fees will affect people flying economy and other lower-fares.
A lot of passengers have managed to skirt around the fees by just packing a bunch of stuff into a large carry-on bag that they jam into the overhead bin.
But those days might be ending—as officials believe airlines are going to start measuring those bags.
