A member of the Siksika Nation—is the first woman to be honoured with the title—“First Nations Princess” at the Calgary Stampede.
That happened yesterday for 19-year old Astokomi Smith—after the Calgary Stampede decided to stop using the old title–“Indian Princess.”
She’ll have a busy year ahead—making local, national and international appearances.
She says she’s hoping to teach other about Indigenous culture and mental health in a positive way. (photo credit–Calgary Herald)
