The United States and Mexico have reached a new trade “understanding”, following a month of bilateral talks aimed at creating a new NAFTA. US President Trump made the announcement this morning at the White House, with the president-elect of Mexico joining him by phone. Trump called it one of the greatest trade deals ever and now says he’ll give Canada a chance to negotiate fairly, in order to join the two other countries. Trump insists Canada needs to move on the issue of tariffs charged on some American dairy products heading north. He also says he’s done with the name NAFTA, because of the bad connotations associated with the previous deal.
