The UCP wants part of the Criminal Code changed up—-so people in rural Alberta—-are better able to protect themselves against criminals.
They say three things need to be considered if someone has to use force to defend themselves:
1. If police are delayed—or dont show up.
2. If the offender doesnt leave after being confronted…
3. The number of people involved–and whether or not they’re impaired.
The party says the NDP hasnt dont much of anything to help rural Albertans with this problem—but Premier Rachel Notley says they put funding towards getting 59 more RCMP officers on the job.
As a result—she says property crimes in rural Alberta–dropped by 10-percent in May.
And she wanted to point out the UC’s actually voted against that funding. (photo credit–NIFU)
