Details on the long awaited and somewhat despised bill 6 were released today….
It was 3 years in the making and today the Notley government outlined the regulations of Bill 6, aimed at making farms and ranches across the province more safe. The government admitted, the government did a poor job in rolling out this bill initially. But labour minister Christina Gray says the government and various farm groups came together.
She says special provisions are being made for agriculture when it comes to OHS regulations, because agriculture work is unique. The regulations apply only to paid farm workers…not family members helping on the farm or ranch. The government is making 17 exemptions or changes to OHS rules that will apply to the province’s farms and ranches starting on December 1st.
Albert Kamps, the chair of Ag coalition says he feels the new regulations generally respect the unique working environment of Alberta’s farmers.
