RCMP say the force they put together earlier this year to fight rural crime—is working.
Mounties say they’ve been able to go after repeat offenders—figure out the root cause of crime in rural Alberta–and then—arrest their suspects.
Staff-Sgt Dwayne Helgeson told Postmedia—that rural crime in Alberta is “almost entirely fueled by drugs”:
“They’re addicted to drugs and they need more drugs–so they steal property for money to buy more drugs. And they’re usually ON drugs when they commit those crimes. This was a hingepoint to helping reduce the rural crime.”
Since February—more than 12-hundred charges have been laid–in more than 2-hundred arrests. (photo credit –Sturgeon Rural Crime Watch)
