UPDATE: The suspect appeared in court this morning. He’s been charged with 10 counts of murder and 15 counts of attempted murder.
Ten people are dead and at least 15 in the hospital–after a rental van was used to plow into pedestrians in north Toronto yesterday afternoon. Witnesses told CTV– a man deliberately drove the van down the sidewalk–at the Yonge Street and Finch Avenue intersection. Then it headed south—hitting more people around Yonge and Sheppard Avenue:
“It was indiscriminate. He was hitting–whoever he could hit. He was hit whoever was in his path. These are innocent people. “
Once the van stopped–witnesses say the driver got out—and told police more than once to kill him. But they refused–and he was arrested. Police have NOT said what the possible motive could be–but Federal Safety Minister Ralph Goodale says there doesnt seem to be a national security connection.
