A bittersweet ceremony in St. Albert yesterday—as the McCann family unveiled a memorial statue—to honour Lyle and Marie McCann.
Their son Brett—spoke to the crowd:
“My parents–in the golden years of their life–had a rich and beautiful life—tragically disappeared July 3rd of 2010. I think of and miss my parents often. They had a long and happy life together–that was sadly cut short. This beautiful piece captures so well–my memory of mom and dad–from the rough base–to these beautiful loons soaring up and out of the water….
Mom and dad were kindred spirits–and these two loons really evokes to me and our family–their loving relationship. It is so uplifting and majestic.
Everyone in the family was asked to use a word or phrase to describe mom and dad–and thats what you’ll see circling the base of the art. “
The statue is in Grandin Pond Eco-Park in St. Albert—-paid for with money the family had offered as a reward to anyone who came forward with information that led to a conviction in their parents’ death. The money was never claimed. (photo credit–Postmedia)
