Thats all she wrote for Northlands Coliseum…
Edmonton city council has voted to shut down the building—after a plan to turn it into a hockey training centre was just too expensive.
The permanent shutdown will happen January 1st of next year.
Officials say it will release the city from a 17-million dollar sponsorship commitment—and that funding may be considered for other things—including amateur sports.
As for Northlands Park–it will be handed to the city in June of next year—OR 30 days after horse racing is no longer licenced on the site.
The city says Northlands will be able to proceed with a business model they say will “honour and return the organization back to its agricultural roots.”
Agreements are being worked out that would see Northlands continuing to host K-Days and FarmFair International on the current site–for at least the next five years.
