Steven Chwok
Steven Chwok is a native of Edmonton and became the host of CFCW’s Zabava Program in September of 2007. He enjoys carrying on a 40 year tradition of Ukrainian music, song and dance for Canadian Ukrainians of all ages.
Steven is well known in the Ukrainian Community and throughout Western Canada as a musician. He founded Prairie Pride Orchestra in 1982 and provided dance music for many special occasions across Alberta until retiring the group in 2003. He also performed with Prairie Pride Orchestra at all of the major Ukrainian Festivals in Canada, which include Vegreville’s Pysanka Festival and Dauphin’s National Festival in Manitoba. Steven toured as a musician with the Ukrainian Shumka dancers on three Canadian Tours playing the tsymbaly with Symphonies from Vancouver to Toronto. He has taught Ukraine’s second national instrument (tsymbaly or dulcimer) to young students for 30 years.
As a side line to hosting the Zabava Program, Steven is a Staff Sergeant with the Edmonton Police Service and has been a proud member for 20 years.
Steven is married and has 4 children. He invites everyone to tune into the Zabava Program on 790 CFCW every Sunday between 7:00-9:00p.m.
