CFCW Country Radio
Curley Gurlock
A legend in Alberta country radio, most especially at 790 CFCW Curley Gurlock began his on-air career in 1952. He was known as the DJ to play the latest release by a Canadian country recording artist, usually inviting them to join him on-air for a brief ‘chat’. Gurlock was so admired by country performers that several ‘tribute’ songs were recorded to honour and recognize his support, including Ray Griff’s 1983 song Curley. Gurlock passed away in 1995.
In 2002, Curley Gurlock was inducted into the CCMA's Broadcaster Hall of Fame by the Canadian Country Music Association. Induction into the Hall of Fame recognizes long-term contributions to the development of country music in our country and was voted on by a cross Canada jury.
