Thanks for finding me on the web. We have not updated this in a while. If you want to read up on Nick@Night, here ya' go!
I grew up north of Edmonton in the Waugh/Vimy area on our family farm. My earlier memories were feeding cattle with dad and mom off the old Chev pick-up in the pasture. My father worked two quarters of land and drove a gravel truck, while mom took care of the family and garden.
I loved the life so much and always wanted to be a farmer like my father from day one. I enjoyed feeding cattle and working with my dad in the field or in the yard. One of my favorite memories was stopping in Thorhild after hauling cattle with dad, where he bought me a bottle of orange pop. We did not talk at all, we just enjoyed a nice treat on the way home. We also loved to watch wrestling on TV together.
I was encouraged to find another career instead of farming, something I did not want. It is so rare in my days on the farm, to be told to find another career when most kids my age were an integral part of the family farm. I did not get that chance. It was hard to find another passion, but as I thought about it, I recalled my interest for radio. Many days, I was alone at home or working around the farm where there would always be a radio keeping me company. It helped out a lot of those days where I needed a voice and radio became my friend. At the age of 15, I was working for CFOK radio in Westlock doing everything you could imagine from washing van's to making coffee for the late RJ Tompkins who worked there for a few years. I idolized him for years on the Ukrainian hour, I sure miss him. I spent a few years there and owe my break to manager Len Novak.
After a few years there, I graduated in Westlock and eventually took broadcasting in Edmonton where I made my way to CFCW in 2005. I enjoy being on the station I listened to all the time with my dad and it's cool to know he is listening sometimes.
I live on a small farm near Spruce Grove. I am so blessed to have a farm of my own, we have a few pigs and a cat now...hope to get some calves by the spring. April, my daughter, loves the farm so much. I hope I can give her the life I could not have and one she can enjoy. I love that girl so much.
You can call me anytime at 1-800-424-1344 and I would love to take your requests and chat with you.
