UPDATE:
As expected–Edmonton has been named as a “possible” host city for the World Cup in 2026.
And thats despite the province already telling the city they WONT be putting any money into that bid.
The FIFA World Cup is held every four years—-and is watched by billions of people around the world.
Canada has never hosted the men’s World Cup—but organizers say it would generate millions for host cities and countries.
This is a joint-bid between Canada, Mexico and the United States.
We’ll find out June 13th—–the “UNITED 2026” bid is going to be named as the host or not.
There’s supposed to be a news conference later this morning on this —-but the province has NO plans to kick some money towards the city of Edmonton in a bid to host the World Cup in 2026.
Yesterday—Tourism Minister Ricardo Miranda said they simply didnt have enough information on what kind of impact it might have on the economy to make any promises.
Vancouver’s already dropped out of the running–along with a few in the States.
Miranda also says people expect the government to “be responsible” with the money..
So we’ll see what’s up with the city of Edmonton later today.
