With the future of NAFTA hanging in the balance, there’s now a risk that Canada might be left out of future TPP talks. A comment from the Japanese ambassador to Canada suggested this week, that the remaining 10 countries might try to strike a deal and leave Canada out of it. There was anger among some countries at the meetings in Vietnam in November, when the PM missed a meeting with the other 11 nations to discuss a new TPP. It left some of those other nations wondering if Canada is really serious about joining the new TPP. A spokesman for the International trade minister says the government is redoubling its efforts to consult with stakeholders to make sure Canada gets the best deal possible on a revived TPP.
