Farmers and ranchers near CFB-Suffield are completely fed up with the military in that part of the province.
Thats after a grass fire allegedly caused by military personnel—-killed more than 1-hundred 30 cattle—burned down a farm house–and outbuildings–and forced more than 40 people to evacuate their homes..
The fire roared through a community pasture east of Calgary—and ranchers are now meeting with lawyers and politicians—-in the hopes of being compensated for their losses.
They say base personnel have been causing these types of grass fires for years—-letting them get out of control—-and not doing anything about it.
The acting commander of the base has already admitted a fire started there Monday—after they blew up an “unexploded ordinance”—-but they’re still investigating–to see if the destructive grass fire is related to that military action.
One rancher says he had to put down several animals that were severely burned by the blaze. Others had already died. (photo credit–CBC)
