Federal ag minister Lawrence McAulay met with several agriculture groups in Vancouver today. They were discussing how best to help farmers and ranchers in the province that have been impacted by wildfires this summer. At this point, it appears the Agri-Recovery disaster framework will kick in, to help determine the type of assistance that may be required. Many ranchers lost livestock along with buildings and feed, to the many wildfires that continue to rage across the province.
Kevin Boon, the general manager of the BC Cattlemens association said in a written statement this morning, those funds will be every bit as important to rebuilding the communities as they are to rebuilding the ranches and helping the BC cattle industry to survive.
