If you had plans to head to BC this long weekend—keep this in mind.
The Verdant Creek wildfire is still out of control—-and there’s a lot of smoke near the BC-Alberta boundary.
As a result—-Highway 93-South—could be closed “off and on” throughout the weekend if the smoke gets too thick.
Jane Park with Parks Canada says its a great idea to check www.alberta511.ca for up to date information on any routes you want to take–or you can Google “parks canada” as well:
“Just to try to get the most up to date information on all the roads and to find out what is and isnt open to the public. All of that can be found on our website. Or you can contact our visitor centres. Thats likely the best place for people to go. I’ve been quite focused on the fire –but we do have a whole list of alternate options that people can do if an area is closed.”
Park says the best time to use Highway 93-South—is between 7am and 2pm—when there typically isnt as much smoke in the valley.
